Meet the team.
Abi - Founder & Dog Trainer
Cookie, our first dog, arrived as an absolute wildling. High energy, full-on, and completely overwhelming. I remember thinking, “why is this so hard?” What followed was a rabbit hole of training, mentors, tears, and a lot of second-guessing…until it finally clicked.
She became the dog I could take anywhere and completely trusted. And just as importantly, I learned to trust myself.
Your Canine Compass was born from that transformation. So you can fast track that messy journey I had, going from stressed and unsure to confident, capable, and out there actually enjoying life with your dog.
Em - Wellington Puppy Class Instructor
My journey started in pet retail, where I quickly fell in love with the Wellington dog community and the people in it. But it was my tricky Border Collie who changed the game. Teaching me how to listen, advocate, and become a real voice for dogs.
My passion is giving dogs what they actually need as individuals, with a huge amount of empathy for both dogs and their humans.
Alongside Your Canine Compass Wellington Puppy Class, I'm also studying vet nursing, continuing to level up my skills and care.
Meredith - Lower Hutt Puppy Class Instructor
I found my way into dog training through dog sports, getting completely hooked on the feeling of building real connection and teamwork with a dog. You’ll usually spot me with my Golden Retriever, Lulu… she’s the one with the pink fluffy tail.
That passion led me to study canine behaviour and training at Unitec, so I could better understand the “how,” and the “why” behind what dogs do. Now, I love helping Wellington dog owners experience those same lightbulb moments, when everything finally clicks and you start to feel like a team.
The Your Canine Compass Dogs
Our dogs are a big part of what makes Your Canine Compass different, they’re a bit of a superpower.
While most Wellington dog trainers just work dog-to-human, we bring something extra: we thoughtfully bring our own dogs into the training process at times.
They act as steady role models, helping your dog learn the things that sometimes are just better taught by another dog.
Social skills, regulation, communication…the real-world stuff that changes how your dog shows up out and about. It’s not just training, it’s learning through experience, alongside dogs who already know the way.
